last year at this time
it was one year ago today
that i became a mommy
she didn't announce herself with two pink lines on a little stick near the bathroom sink
i never felt her kick my ribs
or see her first smile
i was a new mommy with a baby half a world away
with empty arms
and it hurt
but one year ago today
she became my daughter
she made this family of four
become a family of five
Ethiopian law said it was so
and how sweet it was
